Peer Support

Lived experience can be an asset to recovery and rehabilitation. The New Hampshire Lawyers Assistance Program can provide support and connection to peers who work both in and outside of the legal profession. Peer support is a non-professional relationship that aims to reinforce healthy habits, increase opportunities for wellness, and promote professional guidance and direction. Through the New Hampshire Lawyers Association professionals also have the opportunity to volunteer their time and to provide support for other peers in need.

In addition, LAP has lawyer support group meetings and discussion groups that meet around the state. These meetings are confidential and by invitation only for our clients and volunteers. These lawyer meetings are the highlight for many of our clients and volunteers where lawyers and judges come together to support one another and share experience, strength, and hope.

Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Peer Recovery Meeting is held the 4th Wednesday of the month (hybrid: in person and virtual options) from 6:15 pm - 7:15pm. This meeting is exclusively for lawyers, judges, and law students in or seeking recovery from unhealthy substances and coping behaviors - and is always confidential. All stages of sobriety and behavior abstinence are welcome to connect with peers and gain support. To register emailmark@lapnh.org.

Lawyer Mental Health Group is held biweekly via Zoom (Wednesdays from 12:30 - 1:30 pm). This confidential group is exclusively for New Hampshire lawyers looking for additional support, guidance, consultation, and tools to explore current stressors and mental health challenges. Due to the high prevalence of anxiety, depression, substance use, and vicarious trauma, this group will be topic focused, clinician and peer lead, and will offer participants the ability to become more self-reflect, increase awareness, gain a stronger understanding of community resources, and develop stronger connections with peers. To register email: mark@lapnh.org.

Life After Law is a networking group hosted by the New Hampshire Lawyers Assistance Program that discusses practical issues and healthy living to succeed in retirement. We will have guest speakers periodically join the group to offer expert guidance. The group will meet virtually on the last Friday of the month at 9 a.m. To join, it's as simple as emailing Mark Durso at mark@lapnh.org to receive a meeting invitation. We welcome all considering, entering, or retiring to join our monthly Breakfast Club.

Disclaimer: These peer support groups are intended to provide motivation, education, and a supportive community through shared lived experiences. They are not intended to provide therapy or treatment.
